WEB Search engine optimization (SEO)

WEB Search engine optimization (SEO)

How Sites get top search engine position and how those with top search engine ranking do not pay for it.

In the next 10 pages, I will explain how you can achieve top non-paid, non-sponsored search engine results and appear in the first pages of search results.

I will also explain why non-paid results are the results you want, demystify many of the myths about how and why Sites and pages achieve high position, and explain how your Site can appear at or near the top of search engine rankings the real way - without silly top position tricks that can be risky and do not really work for the long term anyway.

This 10 page article will help you to learn how to 'think' about search engine optimization, but cannot tell you specifically how to do it since each case is different.

Do Sites pay for top results? No, this is a myth.

You likely have many preconceptions about how and why some pages appear higher in the search results than others.

Please toss out all preconceptions as you read the next 10 pages. How and why Sites achieve top search engine position will make so much sense that you may be amazed that you had not realized this, yet I am about to uncover the mystery.

Once you understand search engine optimization, the basic concept of obtaining top search position is fairly simple and is an approach and technique you can learn and apply.

Search engine optimization (SEO) describes the general procedure that enables Sites and pages to achieve top non-paid search engine ranking and position.

On the most basic level, SEO can be thought of as search engine compatibility or creating Sites and pages that are compatible with the way search engines work.

Many names for the same result - top position.

No matter what you call it, top keyword page ranking, top Internet search engine position, top web result ranking, first page web results, leading web results, top web results position, top position, high page ranking, (or any other variation), the reason that pages appear high or at the top of search results is a result of search engine optimization. Top search position cannot be bought though it can be achieved - in many cases fairly easily once you understand how.

Many Sites (perhaps most) are not search engine friendly or search engine compatible and therefore do not appear in the first pages of results - sometimes they do not appear on any page of results.

Apply fundamentals, appear much higher.

If just the basic fundamentals of search engine optimization were applied, nearly all Sites and pages would see a jump in their page rankings in search engine results based on related keywords and search terms and phrases.

For many writers and designers and web developers, even leading professionals, the basics of SEO are difficult to comprehend (or believe), which is why I wrote this article about how to appear in the top of the search results, how SEO works, and why SEO works.

Flash Tip SWF in a Web Page

Flash Tip SWF in a Web Page

Flash is a powerful tool that offers developers huge capabilities. Until recently, developers mostly utilized Flash's strengths to create complex animations or fast-loading movies. However, the most recent versions of Flash offer developers power that's far beyond the tool's original scope.

With the advent of Flash MX, we've seen that developers have the power to create web applications with more sophisticated client- and server-side interactivity. When integrated with sophisticated server-side software like ColdFusion Server and JRun, Flash delivers the power and flexibility to become a serious contender in the web application space. Recently, we've been studying web applications that truly highlight Flash's benefits over traditional HTML-based applications. Web applications often involve users completing a process, or a series of steps to get something done. Among Flash's greatest strengths, we've seen that it offers users the ability to view all of the steps in the process in one visual display. Flash also enables users to attack the application steps in their own order. These strengths dramatically enhance the user experience by giving users control and understanding of an application that's not possible with traditional HTML. Displaying the Big Picture In our research, we've seen that Flash is a great tool for displaying a web application's user workflow. With HTML, users typically must access multiple screens to complete a web application process, with little to no control over the order of these steps. With Flash, developers can display all of the users' necessary steps on a single screen, giving users a "big picture" view of their workflow. To illustrate, Volkswagen's web site lets users configure their own car using the Build Your Own Car function implemented in HTML. Users can specify the type of engine, the color of the car's exterior and interior, and optional features. To configure a car, the interface requires users to click through five different screens. The problem is that users can't see how many steps are ahead of them. Users also don't know if they can easily go back and change their specifications. Choosing an interior trim that costs extra might be acceptable early in the process, but when a more preferable option comes later, users may want to change their interior again to reduce costs. What are Web safe fonts? Practically every personal computer has a set of fonts installed. These fonts are usually put there by the computer manufacturer or are the default sets of fonts for the operating system that computer is using. It's possible to install additional fonts on your own. However, not all font sets are created equal. Different computers can have very different sets of fonts installed, and most casual computer users never know the difference. As a designer, do you know where your work really fits in the process of design? We all love Web design. Looking at a blank white box on a computer screen and using only your mind's eye, a mouse, and a keyboard to transform it into a living, breathing Website is no minor feat, and there is undoubtedly a creative rush when it comes to doing something like this. Web design can be a strong artistic outlet and it inevitably brings with it the joy that comes with looking at your finished work and presenting it to others.

Hold on tight, people: I'm about to take you way, way back. Think back to a time before the Internet, before computers, before typewriters, back when the word “America” was still fresh on the lips of European colonists and people were still getting used to that newfangled Gregorian calendar. I'm talking about the 1600s, the Renaissance, perhaps the highest pinnacle of European art and creativity.

It's one of Thoreau's most enduring witticisms, and with good reason. When faced with the ever-increasing barrage of information that is modern life, many people find solace in minimalism. This trend has taken an especially strong hold on the Web. Minimalism and simplification draw attention to important page elements. Using lots and lots of empty space makes content stand out. Punctuationality (Part 2)

Part two of last week's examination of the personality of punctuation. Click here to read Part 1. Em Dash and Hyphen Em dashes and hyphens are sisters, and whenever they go out together, they get stopped by strangers. "Are you twins? You all look so much alike!" At this, they roll their eyes. Sure, they look similar, but it's obvious — to them, at least — that they're each completely unique.
Punctuationality (Part 1)
posted Apr 7, 2009 by Brooke Marshall

It's easy to resent punctuation. Its purpose is to clarify sentences, so why are the rules governing it so complicated? There are so many exceptions, so many exceptions to exceptions — it's enough to make you want forego punctuation altogether. Well, back when it was alive and kicking, the Latin language did just that — and it didn't stop there. Written Latin also omitted spaces between words or lowercase letters.
